How Do I Get A Real Estate License in Massachusetts?

In our 40-hour MA Real Estate Salesperson's PreLicensure Class, we prepare students to take and pass the exam -- while making it less anxiety-ridden and having some fun. Here is a quick overview of the steps. 

1.  To start, you need to take a 40-hour Real Estate Salesperson’s PreLicensure course from a state-approved licensed school, like ours (state school license #1214). If you're looking for a class, we hope you'll join us!

2.  Meet these qualifications: successful completion of the class; be at least 18 years old when you test; have a social security number. The certificate is dated and delivered upon your class completion and you have two years from that date to take and pass the exam.

3. Apply for the exam on the state of MA's website through their eLipse system. Forms will be provided in our class as well as on the state'

How Do I Renew a Real Estate License in Massachusetts with the New eLipse System?

If you are renewing your real estate license after June 2025 in Massachusetts, there are a few new steps to the all-online process. Here's a quick overview to get you started: 

TO RENEW YOUR REAL ESTATE LICENSE IN MASSACHUSETTS:  You can begin the process to renew your real estate license up to 90 days before your expiration date. If the Division of Occupational Licensure (DOL) Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons has your current license, you may get a letter with renewal instructions. However, all the steps are outlined in detail on the MA state website (www.mass.gov) by utilizing typical searches like "how to renew a real estate license."  Give yourself a week or so to work through the steps stress-free.

Can Real Estate Be My “Side Hustle”?

A lot of our students arrive in class wanting to take on real estate as a part-time job. Now it’s all about the side hustle. That certainly sounds more fun – though some would argue there’s no such thing as a less than full-time agent. But, if you’re going to try, what you need is a “full-time attitude.”

Here are a few things to consider if want to make real estate your side hustle:

  • Are you ready to hustle? Are you ready to focus on building your business as if it were your full-time job? With that attitude, you won’t be surprised by the amount of time it takes.
  • Is your current obligation flexible? An agent’s schedule is really the client’s schedule. Home hunting is much more than open houses on weekends. Will you be able to drop everything to show a must-see home and then put together a time-sensitive offer? Will you be available for a home inspection when the inspector has time available?  
  • Do you have a job where you are constantly talking to potential home buyers or sellers?
